The Maternity Benefit
Act w.e.f. 01-11-63)
|Object||It regulates employment of women in certain establishments for certain period under after child birth and to provided maternity and other benefits.|
|Applicability||It extends to the whole of India and applies to every factory, mine or plantations and other establishments wherein persons are employed for exhibition of equestrian, acrobatic and other performances. To other establishments & shops where 10 or more persons are employed on any day of the preceding 12 months. It applies to all private hospitals, and nursing homes dispensaries and also private schools and other education institutions in Karnataka. Other benefits provided under this Act are – medical bonus, leave with wages, before and after delivery and for miscarriage, nursing breaks, etc. All Inspectors & Officers of Labour Department are the enforcing authorities. Assistant Labour Commissioners in relations to plantations and the Chief Inspector of Factories in relation to other establishments are the Competent Authority.|
