26. The Karnataka Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1961. (State Act w.e.f. 1-3-62)

Object This Act provides for the regulation of conditions of work and employment in shops & commercial establishments in the State of Karnataka.
Applicability It applies to the areas notified by the Government. 
Registration of Establishment Registration of all establishments is compulsory. Application in Form-A to be made to concerned labour Inspector with necessary fee which is as under:

(i)     No employees 125
(ii)     1 to 9 Employees 250
(iii)    10 to 19 Employees 2500
(iv)    20 to 49 Employees 6250
(v)     50 to 99 Employees 12500
(vi)    100 and above 25000
Renewal of registration is compulsory for every five years (Form - AA).
The employment of children below 14 years is prohibited under Section 24 of the Act.  Young persons and woman shall not be employed during night, between 8 pm to 6 am.
Opening and Closing hours (a)  Bangalore City 6-00 am to 8-00 pm
(b)  Other than Bangalore City 6-00 am to 9-00 pm
  The name board of every establishment shall be in kannada and if any other language is used, it should be below the kannada version (Rule 24-A).
  Penalties are prescribed under the Act for violation.

(c) Appointment order in Form –Q
(d) Notice to be exhibited on weekly holida ys in Form P
(e) Registration certificate to be exhibited in Form C
